Before enrolling in Friable Asbestos Removal training, participants must first successfully complete the White Card (CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) and Non-friable Asbestos Removal (CPCCDE3014 Remove non-friable asbestos) courses.
SafeWork NSW acknowledges only the CPCCDE3015 Remove Friable Asbestos statements of attainment issued by approved training providers. One Step Training is both approved by SafeWork NSW and accredited by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to provide this nationally-recognised training course.
CPCCDE3015 Remove Friable Asbestos
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to remove friable asbestos containing material (ACM).
It includes preparing, containing and removing friable ACM, and knowledge and application of decontamination and disposal requirements.
Site location can be a real workplace or simulated environment that may include domestic or commercial premises; a demolition site; or an existing structure being renovated, extended, restored or maintained.
Project sites for removal of friable asbestos include construction sites, ships, fences and soils.
The model work health and safety (WHS) regulations and the Code of Practice: How to safely remove asbestos (2018) requires workers to hold certification for the class of licensed asbestos removal work they will be undertaking. Completion of this unit of competency is certification to undertake friable (Class A) removal work.
Occupational licenses are required nationally. This unit is required for all ACM removal workers engaged in the removal of friable ACM.
Candidates are advised to consult with the relevant state and territory regulatory authorities to confirm specific jurisdictional requirements to remove non-friable ACM.
Pre-Requisite Units of Competency
This following units of competency must be completed prior to commencing CPCCDE3015 Remove friable asbestos

Entry Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Level 2 LLN minimum (refer to Language Literacy Numeracy Chart)
- 100 points of ID must be provided on the day of training (Original)
- A statement of attainment for CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or SafeWork general construction induction training card (White Card)
- A Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3014 Remove non-friable asbestos

Mode of Delivery and Duration
- Training will be conducted face to face for 2 days at One Step Training
- schedule conducted on client site will be negotiated with employer based on employee release availability for 16 hours total duration.
Delivery Locations
- Client site: workplace training available on request (minimum 7 participants).
Assessment Requirements
Students will be assessed using relevant assessment methods which includes but is not limited to the following:
- Knowledge evidence requires student to answer a range of theory questions.
- Performance evidence includes undertaking two different friable asbestos removal and disposal tasks including erecting enclosures, installing negative air pressure units and decontamination units and undertaking integrity testing of enclosures.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with Statement of Attainment for CPCCDE3015 Remove friable asbestos and students may also request an optional wallet sized card reflecting their achievement for an additional fee of $10.
Career Pathways
On successful completion of this course:
- Apply to become a Licensed Asbestos Assessor.
- Increase inspectorate position within WorkSafe authority, regulator or other organisation.
- Become an Occupational Hygienist.
