Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform at any height.

This unit applies to those working in operational roles.

The work required in this unit relates to the National Standard for High Risk Work but this unit does not provide the licence. Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements that may apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors, and must be sourced prior to applying this unit.

This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant or equivalent.

 

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.

Where training and assessment is to be completed in the workplace, the following entry requirement is included:

  • Nominate and have approved a suitable workplace to complete the course.

 

Duration

The total duration is 1 day. Training and assessment are conducted.

 

Training Overview

  • Operate: Lifting to varying heights and traveling through obstacles
  • Plan Operations: Hazard management
  • Pre-operational Inspections: on each type of EWP class being conducted
  • Conclude Operations: Parking, securing the equipment, and following site-specific procedures

 

Vocational Outcome

  • Operational Competence: Master EWP operation adhering to safety standards, including pre-operation checks, efficient use, and proper shutdown.
  • Risk Management: Learn to identify and mitigate EWP operation risks with appropriate safety and emergency measures.
  • Compliance: Acquire skills in using EWP documentation for compliance with laws and site rules, plus managing post-operation records.
  • Communication: Enhance coordination and communication abilities for safe and coordinated EWP use.
  • Maintenance and Housekeeping: Understand post-use cleaning, maintenance, and material handling for EWPs.

 

Pathways

Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include a range of possible job titles that require working at heights.

Students completing this unit of competency may decide to undertake additional studies such as RII30820- Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations, RII30920- Certificate III in Civil Construction and RII20520- Certificate II in Resource Processing.

Successfully completing the course, you will receive the following unit of competency:

Nationally recognized Statement of Attainment 

SafeWork NSW Conditions For Assessment

  • Applicants must be at least 18 Years of age.

  • Able to produce 100 points as per the SafeWork NSW identification checklist.

  • Understand and speak English at a level to be able to present in the training and assessment.

  • Oral assessment can be set up for any applicants having a problem with writing and reading. An extra charge applies.
