RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights in the resources and infrastructure industries.

It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

Entry Requirements

  • At One Step Training, the working at heights course typically has the following entry requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Fitness and agility to undertake the course
  • Level 2 LLN minimum (refer to Language Literacy Numeracy Chart)
  • Have a USI or create one from:   https://www.usi.gov.au/students/Digital-ID

  •  Workplace training available upon request: 1 day

Course Outline

  • By completing this working at height training course participants will gain the skills and knowledge to:

  •  Identify work requirements
  • Identify work procedures and instructions
  • Access and install equipment
  • Perform work at heights
  • Clean up work area

Assessment Requirements

Students will be assessed using relevant assessment methods which includes but is not limited to the following:

  •  Knowledge evidence requires student to answer a range of theory questions
  • Performance evidence to demonstrate practical ability to work safely at heights

Verification of Competency (VOC)

  • Verification of competency (VOC) is used to verify worker’s current competence and assists the employer to determine the skill level of the operator for the model and make of machinery and task.
    The VOC is commonly used by employers during pre-employment checks, site requirements and contract negotiations. One Step Training undertakes VOC assessment either in conjunction with training or as a VOC only request to provide to employers.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights. Students may also request an optional wallet sized card reflecting their achievement for an additional fee of $10.
